cew-winner I am mega late on this this year, but I didn’t want too much more time to go by without talking about the 2008 CEW Beauty Awards winners.  These are chosen by executives in the beauty business - editors, owners and every other type of professional you can think of in the biz.  You can be guaranteed that these products are going to be the tops in their categories - and definitely worth a try.  Mass means you can buy the products (mass market) in the drugstores, prestige means that they are available at specialty/department stores and well, they cost more.  Prestigious, you know.

Beautiful Women

Written by on Saturday, May 10th, 2008 in Beauty, Cosmetics, celebrities.

My cousin sent me these two links today - they are pretty hysterical - enjoy. :)

The first one is “If They Were Women,” 15 male celebrities photoshopped into women.  George Clooney, Ashton Kutcher (uh, gorgeous), Leo DiCaprio - they are all there.  Hysterical.  Bruce Willis is NOT an attractive woman. ;)

The second is female celebs without their makeup.  Makeup is a wonderful thing.  Pay special note to Cameron Diaz and Kate Moss.  And the before picture of Whitney - well - it was just not right of them to choose that one.  ;)

While I am not a great fan of the quality of Chanel’s nail polish (why oh why don’t they improve this??), the colors never fail to totally rock.  They have just released the Robertson Boulevard collection:

chanel-robertson-blvd-nails

This pink is to die for.  Yellow, while not a color I can wear, if you can wear it, its gorgeous and super current.

Chanel polish retails for $25, and is available at your nearest Chanel boutique or online at Chanel.com.

BTW, what I *don’t* like about Chanel polish can be pretty easily remedied.  After a few uses, the polish thickens up to the point where it applies poorly and chips easier.  Try one or more of these tips to keep your polish in the best shape you can:

1.  To remedy thick polish - add a little bit of base coat to the polish, shake, and you should be in good shape.

2.  Always clean the neck of your bottle after each use with polish remover - this will keep air out which will cause the solvents in your polish to evaporate and thicken.

3.  One more thing you can do, which isn’t necessarily practical with Chanel or other expensive brands (unless you are totally hooked on the color), is buy two bottles.  Keep one as a refill bottle, and keep the working bottle always filled.  Again, this keeps air out of the bottle, keeping your polish fresh and thin.

Dallas Event Today! C.O. Bigelow

Written by on Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 in Beauty, Beauty News, C.O. Bigelow, Dallas, events.

Please pardon the big ol’ copy/paste here, but in the interest of time (this event is in less than two hours, and my sons soccer game is in 30 min- aack) I wanted to let all the Dallas folks know about this C.O. Bigelow event happening:

att3463c As C.O. Bigelow prepares to turn 170 years old, America’s oldest apothecary is coming to the Dallas Galleria to share its time-honored formulas in a fun, modern setting. Based in New York’s Greenwich Village, C.O. Bigelow Apothecary is renowned for its century-old honest, genuine and trustworthy pharmacy recipes. The Apothecary has attracted a cult following throughout its history, from early fans like Mark Twain and Thomas Edison to current devotees like Sarah Jessica Parker and Mary-Kate Olsen. Today, C.O. Bigelow Apothecary continues to be an unrivaled destination for customized formularies and therapeutic products, transporting consumers to a time and a place of personalized attention, customized formularies and healing ingredients.

By taking actual formularies and therapeutic ingredients that have been documented for nearly two centuries and fusing them with the best of today’s technology, C.O. Bigelow has developed a unique range of skin care products for the face and body that continues to be honest, genuine and trustworthy. Many of the new products in the C.O Bigelow Apothecary Personal Care collection are inspired by the authentic, therapeutic remedies created over a century ago by C.O. Bigelow’s very own pharmacists.

C.O. Bigelow will be arriving at the Dallas Galleria on May 3rd in a mobile AirStream stocked with activities and treats. The day will be packed with fun, free apothecary-themed events for the full C.O. Bigelow experience. Whether you’re taking a break from studying or looking for a beauty boost, C.O. Bigelow is the place to go to:

  • § Vote for the presidential candidate whom you believe is the most honest, genuine and trustworthy

Weekly Web Snob: May 2, 2008

Written by on Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 in Beauty, Friends of eBeauty Daily, Style, websnob.

Really I can hardly believe it is May already.  Every time I write “May” (which has been a lot in 2 days for some reason!) it freaks me out a little bit.  This has been a tough week for me - feeling the allergies, my son has had some weird stomach flu and my hubby has had a hell week too.  TGIF baby!  I have a lot of link catching up to do over the weekend, so here is the first, with my return to Web Snob, after a week hiatus (has it been a rough two weeks??  Maybe.).  :)  Enjoy your weekend - I know I will!!

love-lisa-beauty-battle-box-too-faced

A reader emailed near the end of April asking for me to please point out this gorgeous kit from TooFaced.  I took a peek, and couldn’t help but agree.  This is the Love Lisa Beauty Battle Box, from Too Faced Cosmetics and has been a top seller at Too Faced for a good while now.   The kit was inspired by the sister of Too Faced CEO, Jerrod Blandino, who is battling skin cancer.  The kit is $32.50, and includes two lip glosses, a duo face shimmer, and 4 eyeshadow colors.  The best part is that a “fat chunk” of the proceeds on this kit go to the Wings of Hope Melanoma Research Foundation, not just this month, but always.

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, so stay tuned for lots more about that from me - as many of you who have been long time readers know, skin cancer is a topic that is way closer to my heart than I would like it to be.  WEAR YOUR SUNSCREEN </broken record>!

Happy May Day!  We have two big things going on this month - first, and most important to your health - it is Skin Cancer Awareness Month.  Second, and also relatively important to your health, is Mother’s Day.  Yeah!  I will get into a lot more about Skin Cancer Awareness later on, but I have Mothers Day on my mind at the moment.  Sadly, I usually ask for tech stuff for Mother’s Day (and will likely do the same this year, along with a “day off”  - yeah right), but I really have this on the brain, hardcore:

gardenia-kiehls This is Kiehl’s Gardenia collection - a limited time only collection.  Why *oh why* did I not get this when I was at Kiehl’s last month?  Probably because it wasn’t there yet.  Gardenia is, bar none, my very favorite fragrance.  My gardenia bush outside is covered in buds, and I salivate every time I look at it.  I can hardly wait for the flowers to open - the smell is simply to-die-for.  Ok ok, back to the products.

There are three new products in Kiehl’s line, Gardenia Hand & Body Lotion ($19.50), Gardenia Liquid Body Cleanser ($15.50) and Gardenia candle (I am *so* getting this - $28).  I really don’t have to say more about this - it is Kiehl’s, and a great product (can you say, 1851??), with an amazing scent.  What else do you need?   Ah, gift wrap.  If you are lucky enough to be near a Kiehl’s store, they will help you with that too.  I have seen the operation, it is lovely, organized and they will take GOOD care of you back there in the gift department.  Let me know if you get this - I am dying to know how great it smells.  Meanwhile, I’m ordering a candle (or 5) - don’t forget this is limited edition and will likely sell out before long.   I can buy myself Mother’s Day gifts, right?  :)

Smashbox O-Gloss - My Go-To Gloss

Written by on Thursday, May 1st, 2008 in Beauty, Cosmetics, O-Gloss, O-Glow, Smashbox.

smashbox-o-gloss

I have had my tube of Smashbox O-Gloss for a couple of months now, it really takes me a while to decide on whether I *really* love a new product or not.  I feel safe to say, as I put it on my rebuy list, that this O-Gloss has really become a staple in my bag.  As a mother and (swear) a soccer mom, I am always running around here to there, half made up (or worse).  The O-Gloss is quick, small, and *oh so* convenient for giving me some good lip where there is none.

If you aren’t familiar with Smashbox’s “O” products, the special thing about them is that they start off clear and after a few moments on your skin, they turn into a lovely shade that looks like a natural flush.  I can’t speak for how it works for you, but it really works outstanding for me.  The color is a perfect clear pink that I adore.  The beneficial/active ingredients in O-Gloss are:  Gogi-Berry-C Complex, Ginko biloba, Marine plankton, Pomegranite seed and Avocado oil.  Yum.

You can get O-Gloss and its sister product for the cheeks, O-Glow (which I haven’t tried yet, because I have somewhat of an aversion to cream/liquid products on my cheeks due to their tendency to get clogged pores), at Sephora.  O-Gloss is $22, O-Glow is $26.  Anyone out there paranoid about cheek pores that has tried the O-Glow?  It is a gel, it will *probably* be fine, but inquiring minds want to know. :)

I love Amanda Peet, she is definitely one of my very favorite actresses.  Not only is she a hysterical physical comic, I think she is truly gorgeous.  Always a funny combination, and really pretty unusual to come across!  Here is Amanda on the June cover of Lucky Magazine, out on stands May 6th.

Amanda-peet-lucky-cover

And here is a little info about the shoot from Lucky:

“Low-maintenance” and “cover shoot” aren’t terms often used in the same sentence, but Amanda Peet, one of Lucky’s favorite stars, has always been easy. The funny and beautiful actress needed less than half an hour in hair and makeup, and then announced she’d be happy to wear anything, as long as there was a belt involved. “An outfit is so much cleaner when you can see your waist,” she explained.

Peet—who plays an FBI agent in the new X-Files movie—got her wish with the gorgeous outfit on this issue’s cover. “I’m not big into experimenting,” says the 36-year-old actress. “Preppy works for me, and I stick with it.”  And it’s true: She has a talent for combining classic, clean-cut items in a way that always looks great.

Well, that’s somewhat disgusting - I mean, I can’t imagine how long I would be back in hair and makeup if I were doing a magazine cover, but I guess that’s why Amanda makes the big bucks, and, well, why I sit behind a computer all day. :)   I love her nude lips with her more dramatic eyes - it goes perfectly with her.  I cannot imagine her in bright red lipstick at all.

Lucky Magazine readers (and you!) can register to win Amanda Peet’s cover look! Lucky is giving away her outfit and makeup worth more than $3,000 (*gasp* that is a lot of money for a non experimental outfit).  Also, the first 50 readers to register will receive a Mark Little Bronze Box.  Get on over there. :)

After the jump, check out a couple more Amanda Peet pics from the magazine.  She is an eBeauty for sure!

Project Runway Designer T-shirts

Written by on Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 in Beauty, Project-Runway, Save Money, Style, sales, tshirts.

Through May 8th, the Project Runway store has a discount on the Project Runway designers tshirts - they are regularly $24.95, on sale for $18.95.  There are some super cute ones in there - I’ve not quite decided yet which one I am going to get.  Here are Elisa and Kit’s tshirts - my two top choices, but Im thinking the boobs probably aren’t appropriate for “mom wear.”  *sigh*

Love tshirts?  Don’t forget about the fab Mike and Rangga over at The Daily Tee!
