I hope all you moms had a wonderful Mother’s Day - apparently I took off big for my Mothers Day.  I connived my way into a new Blackberry (with a camera - finally! - w00t), and went to an incredibly nice dinner at Eccel Steakhouse here in College Station with the hubbity hub, Mom and the kiddos.  Dinner was incredibly good, and incredibly pricey, but I had leftovers today, and still have more for lunch tomorrow.  Good eats!  Man, I love a good steak better than just about anything else!

We have a couple of giveaways going on in the channel, so I wanted to be sure and let you in on those:

Ellen at SpaBeautifully is giving away a Qtica Lemon Dream set of luxury body treatments - the contest ends Wednesday, so hurry on over there and enter!

Kim at IndieStyleFile has a contest running until May 23rd to win a super fun boombox necklace from Zlanarama!

Zoom on over and get yourself into these contests, and I am going to zoom and work on some more writing, that which I have been woefully hiding from for days.  Good luck!

So our newest B&S’er, Tris, at Manscaping-101, has found the quickest way to get fired.    Tag me on a meme. :)   Ha!  Nah, just kidding, I don’t mind.  I am a couple of meme’s behind though, so Ill start with this one and work my way down (riiiiight).

My Beauty Secrets (this is old news to you guys):

My Foundation: bareMinerals, baby.  I have branched back into liquid a bit, and I adore the youthful look that Elizabeth Arden’s Intervene gives me.

My Mascara: Oy - I have a ton of mascaras that I have been using - right now my fave is Lancome’s Courbe Virtuose - gives amazing lash with no flaking or smudging, and it is easy to apply.

My Blush:  3 Custom Color Specialists cool bronzer.  Perfection.

My Eye Shadow:  Eye shadow is ALWAYS MAC.  Always.  Nothing else compares.

My Day Cream: This is one that I don’t really have a favorite for.  Right now I am using Eve Lom, and really do like it.  More about that later.

My Lipstick:  Again MAC.  Any of the cool Viva Glam shades and glosses.  Delish.  And good for the world. :)

My Beauty Product Brand:  Again, MAC.  If I only could wear one brand, this would be it.

My Essential Beauty Product:  Definitely the Clairsonic skin care brush.  I will never be without this again if I can help it.

My Favorite Makeup Product:  This is hard.  Probably mascara - just don’t make me commit to one.

My Perfume: I have to stick with my favorite classic - Calvin Klein Eternity.  It is so me.  But I love to experiment.

My Nails:  I love all OPI polishes, Chanel colors (even though the polish quality leaves something to be desired), and Nailtiques treatments.

My Feet:  Zims Crack Creme (this stuff is amazing) and good old fashioned Cetaphil cream - in the tub.  Again, truly awesome.

My Hands: Again, you can’t hardly beat the Cetaphil cream in the tub.  Good for everything that ails (drys) you.

Three Products to bring on a deserted island:  Gobs of bareMinerals foundation (for sunscreen AND beauty), Paul Mitchell Hair Repair, and toothpaste.  :)

Woman I admire for their beauty:  Anyone in Hollywood brave enough to age gracefully, without making their face look like an overstuffed sofa.  Helen Mirran.  Gorgeous.

Woman with the Best Sense of Style: Why is this a hard question?  Uh - Angelina Jolie.  She sure knows how to properly style her arm candy. :)

My Ultimate Dream (but I do not believe in selling my soul to the devil for it):  I already have it - An amazing hubby, amazing kids and an amazing job that I truly love doing.  I couldn’t ask for anything more.  Well, maybe to not have to pay taxes.  But I would have to sell my soul for that one.

How Do I Define Womanhood:  Good heavens.  Women do everything.  EVERYTHING.  So Womanhood is EVERYTHING.

My Favorite Fashion Publication:   Vogue, all the way.

Holy samoleans - I have to torture 5 other people with this?

Lianne, Elke, Amber, Patrice, and Pascalle

And a special happy blogiversary to Lianne at The Makeup Girl!  {{hugs}}  Heres a martini and a sake just for you, my friend! xox

Hola Chickas

Written by on Thursday, April 24th, 2008 in About Me, Beauty, Beauty Books, Tanning, contests, sephora.

Oh I have been a slacker this week.  Ok, not really.  Super busy work week, and been eating Cold-eze and spraying that zinc-y nose goo trying to keep from getting sick.  Ugh.  And its soccer season.  And my dog is about to have puppies.  And the house keeper is coming tomorrow and things are upside down.  There is nothing I hate worse than feeling like I’m pulled in 92 different directions all the time, and always feeling behind.  Know what I mean?  Times like this week I don’t feel very supermom-y, and certainly don’t feel so beauty-full.  Regardless, I have a huge backup of things to talk about - new fun and not so fun purchases I have made, and some interesting new things that have been sent to me to try.  I am really going to try to do better from here on through the weekend and get caught up.  I adore my beauty, and even when I don’t have time to sit down here and tell you how much, I am always thinking about doing it.   So hang on, I hope to have an onslaught coming up.  After I finish my meetings in the morning.  Oy.  :)

I hope you all are managing to stay well and healthy - and are using your sunscreen.  I have spent a good bit of time outside this past couple of weeks doing gardening on the weekend and going to soccer games.  Wrinkle city.  And don’t forget, you have until Friday at midnight to enter the Sephora book/goodies contest.  I have a bunch of entries, all of which I hope to get up on the site tomorrow - some great gals with some great beauty bags have joined the contest - I sure hope you will too!

So, bar none, THE most amazing thing I got to do while I was in NYC in early February was under an embargo until today.  For me, this compared to meeting Duran Duran when I was sixteen - I was invited to an exclusive party at the new MAC Pro store (was one of about 20 people), to get a tour of the new store and to meet Traver Rains and Richie Rich of Heatherette, who have designed a collection for MAC cosmetics for Spring.  I’ve mentioned Heatherette quite a few times in the past on eBeautyDaily - I have been a huge fan for just about as long as they have been around.  I can remember seeing Richie Rich around pre-Heatherette - in the NYC club scene, and I just fell in love with their design work on sight.  And Traver - *swoon* - that is about all I can say about that.  While I am a mother and a model citizen these days, lets just say that in days gone by, I would have fit right into the club kids scene.  Sometimes I still long for those days (much to my husbands chagrin…lol).

So, when MAC got in touch with me on my first day in NY last month, and asked if I would like to participate in this event, I cannot tell you how truly thrilled and honored I was to be invited.  I was just talking to Shai a couple of hours ago, and telling her that I rarely get star struck, but this one was huge for me.  HUGE.

Ill show you the gorgeous pics from the MAC Pro store later on, but for now, lets go with Heatherette.  Check out the adorable pink champagne and snacks they served before Richie and Traver took the stand:

Have I mentioned I love pink?  I thought so.  So shortly after our snacks, the guys came out and took their seats, along with James Gager (Sr VP/Creative Director, MAC Worldwide - and one of the most passionate people I have ever met), and Jennifer Balber (Sr. VP Product Development, MAC Worldwide).

This collection is my dream collection, for sure.  I am very sorry to say that it is already almost completely sold out on MACcosmetics.com - but there will be tons of it up for sale on eBay - guaranteed - and it goes on counter today - so quit reading and RUSH to the counter and stock up.  You can come back later.

***

Ok, you back now?  What did you get???  Be sure and let me know.  And click below to read more about my adventures with Heatherette!  :)

***

So, I wanted to let you know about their motivation for this collection, I thought it was very interesting, hopefully you will too:

Heatherette and MAC - A Shared Philosophy

This season MAC has joined forces with Manhattan’s most counter-culture couturiers and red-carpet renegades: Richie Rich and Traver Rains, the design duo behind Heatherette, to create its newest, limited-edition collection.

Best described as “club kid cool meets award show chic,” Heatherette and MAC share a passion for celebrating larger-than-life personalities, and the belief that with a little effort (and the right hair and makeup’) one can be a star.

“Heatherette and MAC make a great partnership, because we were both founded as renegade companies.” sags James lager. Senior Vice President/Creative Director, M•A•C Worldwide.

“Designers Richie Rich and Traver Rains reinvented that Warhol-style spirit of The Factory, and we at MA-C share that collaborative attitude.” Since Heatherette’s early days, M-A.C has provided their often outrageous, always anticipated fashion shows with makeup and artistry support.

“For this collaboration, Richie and Traver were involved every step at the way,” says Jennifer Babier, Senior Vice President of Product Development, MAC Worldwide.

“We created iconic products that Richie uses, like Glitter and Lipglass”

The teams also created a fabulous phalanx of essentials for the ultimate Heatherette face: Beauty Powder. Lipstick. Eye Shadow tries, Pigments. Nail Lacquers. Mascara, and the newest Innovation — Dual-Edge Eye Pencils. The palette is pure  Heatherette: Think fuchsia pink, pastel green, sparkling purple and glittery turquoise.

And not to be outdone, the packaging itself is as imaginative and daring as the design duo themselves“

Heatherette loved the Idea of painting your face with their cosmetics, says Cager,

“so together we created a paint-by-numbers display for our counters.”

“Everything Heatherette does is playful, says Balbier.

Playing off the designers’ sense of dress-up and fun, Cordon Espinet, Chief Makeup Artist for MA-C Worldwide, created two different looks based on Heatherette’s notorious runway presentation.

“When you watch a Heatherette show, there are always the models that look like good girls who do their homework and bring home high marks, and then on that same runway, you’ll see the girls who look like they spend their school days cutting class ad smoking In the restroom.” says Espinet. With this Heatherette collection for M.A.C. you can be both.”

So, as pictured above, this is a very full collection for MAC.  It contains 2 trio eyeshadows, one well suited for warm skin tones and the other for cool.  They did a great job in this collection giving something that everyone could use (both from the skin tone perspective as well as the “good girl/bad girl perspective).  The collection also includes 2 glitters (duh, this is Heatherette!), 2 pigments, 2 nail polishes, 2 of their new beauty powders, 4 Lipglasses, 4 Lipsticks, 2 new patent leather-finished lashes (one is a fishnet design and the other is a little more *normal* - although Im not sure how *normal* you can possibly consider black patent eyelashes!), and the newest innovation are the 4 duo sided eye pencils.  From Jennifer Balbier, re the brand new to MAC eye pencils:

“We created the Dual-Edge Pencil.  One side has a creamy eye liner, which allows you to get a precise application.  The other side has a fun glitter eye liner.  You can wear each liner alone, or combine them for a sparkly effect.”

They are truly cool.  Like Heatherette.  Like everything else in this collection.  Like MAC.  This was such a fun opportunity for me - it is hard to verbalize really.  *Oh* how I love my job!

I look so horrid in this next picture, I can hardly bear to post it, but my daughter said - “OMG Mom, you look so HAPPY!”  And I sure was.  Blown away really.  And you’ve seen me look worse in videos no doubt, so here goes:

So there you go.  And now that I have uploaded the rest of my Fashion Week pics, Ill show you some of the other fun things that went on and neat things that I saw in upcoming days.  I hope you at least shared a little of my fun from that day - it was truly awesome!!

Getting (back) Into The Groove

Written by on Tuesday, March 18th, 2008 in About Me, Beauty, sxsw2008, travel, vacation.

So, I made it.  I have spent the last 11 days out of town, first for a week in Austin at SXSW interactive, and the last four days in San Antonio with the fam.  Much fun was had, sooooo many great people were met, much sleep was lost, much blogging was left undone.  So now I am left trying to get back into the groove.  Never an easy task for me. :)

Not much beauty was had at SXSW, I must admit - it was a geekfest with the men vastly overwhelming the women (I hate it when that happens…lol), and we were all in a scramble to get in at night, squeak out a little sleep, then be back *on* first thing in the morning til late at night.  Sort of like rush week, I would imagine, had I been the *rush* type.  Yep, I’ve been a geek for a long time.

I did bring along a few new goodies to try while I was gone (brave soul that I am after trying a few new things in NY last month with poor results!), so I did find some stand out goodies to talk about, and have even more stuff sitting around here to pour through as I can get to it.  So yes, I’m behind (story of my life), but yes, will be getting caught up soon.  I’m back, and I’m thrilled!!

My friend Kristen King is sponsoring a contest over at Lively Women that you will probably be interested in.  Yep, beauty loving chicks take note:

Leave a comment telling Lively Women readers about your best or worst experience with a skin care product/provider or restaurant, and be automatically entered into a random drawing to win a $50 Bruno Jamais gift certificate and Frownies’ Facelift in a Bag!

Kristen is a fantastic writer - you may have run into her at one of many places online that she writes.  Lively Women is a blog all about us.  Leave your comment on this post, (and read the ones that are there, some funny ones are there already, and no doubt there will be more to come) and enter to win!

I don’t ever enter these plethora of contests we have around b5media, partially because they are my full time employer and really because I really want a reader to win.  So I will tell you of my worst skin care experience.  It was recent.  While I was in NY for Fashion Week, we really had so many wonderful opportunities to meet folks.  In the process I had probably about 5 makeovers.  That’s a lot of different stuff on your face.  So, the day before my super secret meeting that I can’t tell you about until later in the month but was soooooooooooo excited for, Teri and I went to - gosh, where were we? - I think Bendel’s.  This darling makeup artist at Trish McEvoy pulled us over there, and wanted us/me to try his wares.  Most especially the Beta Hydroxy Pads.  He used those to take my makeup off, and that is where I think the mistake was made.  He did a lovely job putting makeup back on me, but by the end of the day, my face looked horrific.  Just horrific.  I was so broken out, and my skin looked swollen.  It has taken nearly a month for my skin to recover.  Nice way to meet - well - my favorite designers, face to face.  That’s all I can say about that for now.

I really hesitate to blame the product itself on my woes, as I think it was icing on a way too made-over cake.  Maybe it was using too much of it (to remove my makeup).  But it will be a long time before I try them again, I will tell you that.  He did a beautiful job on my eye makeup, and I bought the brush he used to do the shadow in my crease - it was wonderful - but you can see a small taste of how oily my skin was afterwards.  And the eyebrows.  ::shudders::  Just. not. cute.

Pictures coming March 20 of the bad skin and the hot designers.  I know you can see the excitement in my eyes, hopefully it overshadows the horrid look of my skin.  LOL

Get on over to Lively Women and tell Kristen your story, ok?  Go now so you don’t forget, but she is taking comments until next Friday, March 14th.

I mentioned a month or two ago that I was branching out from my mineral makeup.  I had become very comfortable in it, and I really needed to try some of the new foundations on the market - especially the anti-aging ones.  Darn it.

It has been a long time since I have used liquid foundation on a regular basis, but I have started out with Elizabeth Arden’s new foundation, Intervene.  This is an extension of their successful Intervene Pause and Effect anti-aging skin care line.  Probably the very most important feature for a foundation for me is to have some sort of SPF, as I know first hand of the dangers of fair skin and glorious sunshine.  I have a big ol scar down the front of my nose to prove it.   Intervene Makeup has an SPF 15, which when used in conjunction with your moisturizer, which hopefully also has some sun protection (Intervene moisturizers also have SPF 15), should do you pretty well.  The photos below are me, naked on the left (ha and ouch), with foundation only in the middle, and with all the accoutrements (and hair!) on the right.  I think you can see a mighty big difference in my skin, no?  You can click the image to view it full size.  If you’re brave.  Or just want to make fun of me (ouch again).

This is what EA says about the foundation:

This new liquid makeup with Biodorminâ„¢ skincare benefits helps put a pause on aging signs. Micro-mineral pigment technology smooths away imperfections for brighter, even-toned skin, as it delivers all day coverage, color-true shades, and a soft natural finish.
New INTERVENE Makeup SPF 15 with Biodorminâ„¢ technology:

  • Smooths imperfections, evens out skin tone and creates a soft natural finish that lasts all day with micro-mineral pigment technology.
  • Visibly delays the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as it gives skin a firmer look
  • 100% oil free
  • Medium/full coverage. Ideal for normal skin.
  • Protects skin from environmental challenges with antioxidant vitamins C and E
  • Offers a wearable, skin-enhancing shade range created with Elizabeth Arden’s exclusive Custom Color system
  • Provides SPF 15 sun protection
  • Non-acnegenic and non-comedogenic

I have personally found most of these claims to be absolutely true.  The first day I wore Intervene, I actually caught myself in the mirror, and did a double take - my skin definitely was looking more youthful.  Another extremely nice characteristic of this makeup is that it really does last all. day. long.  I have worn it constantly for about 4 weeks now, and have eyeballed it each and every day in the evenings, and really, it stays looking very good.  This was an advantage that I had seen with mineral makeup, but liquid foundation has come a long way, baby.

My skin is scary broken out right now after one (or five) too many makeovers and product tests while in NYC (with that pimply time of the month added in - ugh).   After I returned from Fashion Week, I was really hesitant to wear any makeup for a while, as I was concentrating on putting some moisture back in and just letting my skin rest.  It really had a workout while I was gone.  But, after a couple of days of that, and it not really getting much better, I had to put makeup on for some reason, and I swear my skin looked better by that night, so I have worn makeup since.  This is a treatment foundation, and really, it has proven to be a treatment for me.

One more thing that really pleased me about this foundation is that I picked the color off of the internet, and was able to easily choose the right color.  That is not always easy to do, and I don’t know why it worked so well for me this time, but it did.  You can buy Elizabeth Arden’s Intervene Makeup directly from the EA web site ($36), or if you aren’t so confident about buying your foundation online, do stop by an Elizabeth Arden counter and give it a try.  If you order online, with any Intervene Makeup purchase they will include a deluxe mini travel size of your chosen color.   For the time being, anyway.  w00t!

Rant Time in Texas - College Station Target

Written by on Wednesday, February 13th, 2008 in About Me, Beauty, Boots, Target, Valentines Day, shopping.

picApp_publisherId = 421;picApp_imageId = 1034;picApp_imageWidth = 420;picApp_imageHeight = 224;picApp_configUrl = “http://pis.picapp.com/IamProd/FlashSite/GetConfig.aspx”;picApp_Picview=”http://pis.picapp.com/IamProd/FlashSite/en/picviewerv1_1.swf”;picapp_numberOfLine=1;ImageServe();

I am somewhat ashamed, as a blogger, to admit that I did my Valentine’s Day shopping at Target, but I did.  Today.  Yes, we all know that Target has the grooviest cheap merchandise around - sad, but true - the classy (wo)man’s WalMart.  I wish it weren’t so.  But what Target also has, that perhaps they shouldn’t, is an account with Boots, a fabulous line of cosmetics, skin and body care which has fairly recently made their way to the United States.  I have used many products from Boots in the past (their Mediterranean Wonderbalm is my wintertime savior!) , and I am sure I’ll buy many more, but I sure won’t be buying them from Target.  They seem to not care anything about aesthetics or hygiene, as the whole Boots wall in the College Station Target is disgusting.   Really, disgusting.  Products are all switched around, not in their proper spots, packaging is smooshed, things are spilled on the floor making it slippery.  And the testers, OMG.  Product is smeared all over them like a pack of 2 year olds were unleashed for a day.  Most of them are mostly empty, foundation is running down the sides of all of the bottles.  A bacterial nightmare, I’m sure.  There is no way that the mess that is the Boots wall was made in one morning.  No way.  I hope people from Boots are watching them - or more correctly I hope they are not, because I hope they wouldn’t approve of the way their counters are being tended.  I would have thought, and did think, that Target was a wonderful place for Boots to set up shop in the US, but it sure doesn’t seem to be.  Target’s lack of caring about their community and their shoppers is becoming more blatant every day.

I pledge to find another place with cute inexpensive goodies for holiday gift giving, even in my small town, there are plenty of other options.  And btw, Boots is also available at CVS.  Might I suggest you give them a try. :)
